Window to Heaven

Mostly cloudy and mild outside for a nice noon walk. My late breakfast of a cheese omelet and bacon was still firmly affixed to my ribs, so although the clock was saying to eat lunch, I decided to listen to my stomach and walk. Off to the creek I go!

As I proceeded south walking into the wind, although it whistled in my ears, it felt amazing to my brow at such a perfect temperature. Although a wild variation of grey clouds was spattered across the sky, a window to the heavens opened up, exposing the magnificent blue above. It seemed as though I’d found a keyhole to peek through to get a glimpse of the goings on in another world.

The heads of the tall, slender grassy fields danced and waved at my passing, tossed to and fro by the same wind that was cooling my face. Droplets of rain introduced me to a bit of moisture, but I steadily plodded my course, headed to the sanctuary where the water flows and the rocks cry out.

Ducking down into the creek, out of the wind-swept open air, the breeze ceased. Without air movement it was a bit muggy and buggy, and although I wanted to introduce my perspiring head to fresh air by removing my cap, it remained in place as a bug deterrent.

The water was down a bit, exposing some new rocks here and there. It may be bridge-building time once again, time to gather large stepping stones to create dry crossings to the other side.

A new, long, deep pool had formed from the winter and spring rains, bringing minnows to dart about in the calmness and clarity of the water. Unless the rains bring water levels up soon, the minnows may soon be trapped for a time as summer approaches and rains become increasingly scarce. Time will tell if they survive.

After some quiet time of reflection and prayer, lunch was calling my name. Perhaps one of my special, drippy running-down-your-arm sandwiches? No time like the present. Off to home I go, Almost Home!

As I faced south, a “window to heaven” opened up, blessing me with a magnificent blue!
